With the aim of combining learning with entertainment, pupils of Real Oviedo English have taken on the role of sports commentators.  They used English to commentate on March's Real Oviedo match against Extremadura.
This task was one of the academic activities that pupils of Real Oviedo English, the English academy within our Soccer School, have received at home in the last couple of months.  Due to the current State of Alert, they have been unable to continue attending their normal classes.
Each week the children receive activities in English from their teacher, which help to keep them entertained and maintain the level of knowledge they had acquired prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Activities for the youngest pupils, who are between 5 and 7 years of age, mostly involve games in English, which aim to allow the children to have fun while they learn.  Older pupils, aged between 8 and 11, usually do more complex tasks, although these are also intended to be entertaining, with many of the tasks being linked to Real Oviedo.
Once the activities have been completed by the pupils, the next step is to send them back to the teacher for them to be checked over, and then returned to the pupil once the necessary corrections have been made.
Through Real Oviedo English, the Real Oviedo Soccer School (Escuela Real Oviedo) this season began to offer the possibility for the young footballers to study English in classrooms at the Fundoma facilities; the same place where the children train.
The classes take place immediately before or after the children's training sessions, according to what fits best, with the aim of reducing journeys for the family members and guardians responsible for taking the youngsters to and from the Escuela.
The English lessons see reduced-size groups receive class from a native, qualified teacher, who has experience teaching children.  Each pupil receives a progress report at the end of each term, as well as a diploma at the end of the academic year.
