Real Oviedo defender Christian Fernández made an appearance in the press room at El Requexón.

After the beginning of the second week of training, the Cantabrian assured that, “It’s a joy to come back and share the locker-room with my teammates. There’s a renewed hop to face a hard year. At a team and institutional level, it’s good that the project is rolling forward, keeping many players from last year. We’ve added new players and we’re on our way to making a great team.”

Speaking more in depth about the new additions from the summer market, the back understands that, “They have to adapt quickly so that we can bring out the best in them. They’re men with hopes and great desires that know how much is expected of this team. From the beginning they’ve seemed willing to work. It’s good.”

Asked about whether he would prefer to play center back or left back, the Christian Fernández affirmed that, “Last year I played center back, it’s a natural step in my career because of individual circumstances. I’m at the coach’s service, and I know that the team as whole is the most important thing.”

Speaking about the parity that exists in the division, the Cantabrian highlighted that, “Every year the path gets more complicated. There are respectable clubs that have joined the Primera División and we know how long and difficult it is going to be. Every little detail is essential and we have to foster some good bases in order to maintain this level of play.”

Finally, referring to the friendly matches to prepare for the season, Christian assures that, “It’s clear that we as players want to compete. We are going to start a carousel of weekly matches and that’s what’s going to produce a competitive environment for us.”
