Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room at the Carlos Tartiere following the team’s training session.

Ahead of the coming match in the Copa del Rey, the Coach argued that, “we are going into the best possible week for what happened. We can’t torment ourselves any longer about what happened, we just need to know why. We weren’t good the other day and we paid the price.”

With respect to the importance he gives to the knockout tournament, Anquela stated that, “I want us to get to the cup final. We have options. Some lads need to get minutes, and competing is the best way. The cup is incredibly important for me, but there’s a strong team up against us and we know it will be difficult. We are going to make a competitive team. If you don’t compete it’s impossible to win, and when we don’t compete we don’t even draw.”

Asked for his evaluation following last weekend’s clash against Real Zaragoza, the Coach believes that, “the other day wasn’t an accident, but it was something we didn’t see coming. We can’t forget about the things you have to do to compete in this division. We didn’t reach the standards required the other day.” In addition, regarding the mood in the group following the defeat, Anquela said that, “the squad is fine. The important thing is to know why things happen, by working out what we stopped doing well.”

Finally, with respect to the B team’s win at El Molinón and whether any of the players could feature in the match at Son Moix, Anquela said that, “they don’t need to win for us to see their ability. The lads from the B team show me it every day. They show me it in their day-to-day work; you can’t fault them,” he concluded.
