Real Oviedo were knocked out of the Copa del Rey this evening at Son Moix.

Anquela made several changes to the starting eleven used in LaLiga, bringing in Champagne, Forlín, Carlos Martínez and Javi Hernández, as well as Ibra on the wing. The team’s first chances came from Boateng and Javi Hernández shots from the edge of the box, while Mallorca failed to create danger. Real Oviedo had the better of the first half, as well as the better chances, but they were missing the final touch to create real danger in attack. Tejera’s injury resulted in Edu Cortina coming on before the half-hour mark. The youth team product quickly adapted to the game. The next chance fell to Ibra as he fired wide under pressure in the area. Champagne denied Valcarce, in what was Mallorca’s only real chance of the half.

The hosts improved after the break and also started to create chances. An Aarón cross towards Toché in the box was cleared by the home defence, in what was the best opportunity for Los Azules. Mallorca responded by breaking the deadlock. The counter attack ended with Carlos Martínez on the floor and Ferrán Giner firing home from the left to make the score 1-0. From there on, despite their many changes, Real Oviedo couldn’t have done much more, and they never stopped trying, but they were eliminated in the second round of the cup.

The team will train at RCD Mallorca’s training ground tomorrow, before returning to Asturias in the afternoon.
