Carlos Martínez: "We want to win"

The full back admits that “Zaragoza was a blow”, but says that, “we have to stick together, not leave space, and work hard”

Real Oviedo right back, Carlos Martínez, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón after the team had trained behind closed doors.

After the team were eliminated from the cup, the defender argued that, “it's time to focus on LaLiga. We want to change the mood, and we want to win. We have to reassert our way of playing. We have no doubts; it would be bad if we had them in September. Zaragoza was a blow but have to keep competing.”

Asked about the importance of keeping clean sheets in this division, Martínez said that, “it’s something we need to do. If we are conceding so many goals, then it means that there’s something we aren’t doing right. We have to stick together, not leave space, and work hard.”

Asked for his feelings having made his debut last Tuesday in the Copa del Rey, the right back commented that, “I got 90 minutes the other day after many months out. I feel good and the truth is that I need minutes. I’m happy to be back playing.” In addition, regarding his adaptation to the club and the city, Martínez stated that, “it’s all been very positive. The facilities, the environment, the fans...everything is perfect. The people back the team, and their reaction the other day surprised me. I’m at a great club and I think that everything is prepared for us to have a good season.”

Finally, ahead of this weekend’s clash in Lugo, the full back pointed out that “they are a team with a solid foundation and with strong players up front. We know that they are strong at home and we expect it to be a difficult game. We are prepared for Sunday’s game.”
