With Armando Barbón in everybody's thoughts, today began with the team being welcomed by a slogan in the North Stand, stating "this stand is with you; you have to win today." And that is just what happened.
With the only change to the starting eleven which had triumphed in Las Palmas seeing Mossa replace Lucas at left back, the afternoon started brightly for Real Oviedo. The team emerged strongly in the opening minutes, pushing, attacking and dominating, and they would not take long in getting their reward. A fine tackle from Blanco Leschuk was followed by Nahuel linking up with Marco Sangalli, with the latter opening the scoring in the ninth minute. Ziganda's side continued to dominate, without giving anything away in defence. The match went exactly as Los Carbayones wanted it to. Edgar fired a powerful shot against the post. Shortly after that, Blanco Leschuk headed home a second from a set play, but the referee ruled it out for a supposed foul. The teams went in for halftime with the score 1-0.
After the break, the team went in search of goals. Borja Sánchez robbed the ball in the opposition's half, drove forward and fired across goal from the left-hand side to double the lead. Edgar made up for hitting the post earlier on by making the score 3-0 and sealing the win. Castellón, now with nothing to lose, pushed on, but Ziganda's side maintained their defensive solidity and Femenías was not threatened. Arribas came on for Bolaño after the latter dislocated his shoulder, before Edgar made the score 4-0 in the final stages.
Today saw a great victory, with good play, efficiency and defensive solidity being demonstrated for a second consecutive match.
