Too Harsh A Punishment

Real Oviedo left Granada empty-handed after a match in which they created chances that they couldn’t convert, and conceded from a counter attack

Real Oviedo left Los Cármenes empty handed. Despite deserving more, the
fact is that there was only one goal in this match, and it went the way of the league leaders. The Asturians had stood up to them for more than eighty minutes.

With one change in defence enforced due to Javi Hernández’s suspension and Christian Fernández’s return, Anquela otherwise maintained the same team, and it worked for him. The team were right in the game from the start and had the first chances in the opening minutes. Johannesson had a go, but
his left-footed strike went over the bar. In the sixth minute, Ibra fired across goal and grazed the post. Real Oviedo were passing nicely, didn’t concede, and were dangerous in attack. Johannesson had the next two
opportunities. First, he controlled and shot inside the box, but Rui Silva denied him. He then shot narrowly wide under pressure from an opponent. Mossa tried his luck from the edge of the box, but the home keeper again denied him. A good Real Oviedo performance went unrewarded in the first half, and the teams went in for halftime with the score 0-0.

Granada increased their intensity and possession in the second half, but, although they didn’t create clear chances, Real Oviedo defended solidly and professionally. Anquela’s side had several counter attacks, but couldn’t convert them. Bárcenas went closest when he struck the post. Champagne
had to intervene to keep out a shot which was heading towards the top corner. The substitutions couldn’t quite do the trick for Real Oviedo, who conceded on the counter attack, with Ramos finishing well.

The team will return to Oviedo by bus and resume training at 17:00 on Monday at El Requexón.
