Real Oviedo hoped to reaffirm their improvement in recent matches, despite their many absences, against an Almería side that arrived at the Tartiere wounded.

Anquela tinkered with his starting eleven due to Christian Fernández’s suspension, bringing in Carlos Martínez in his place. Real Oviedo quickly took the lead. Some fine wing play from Johannesson ended with Mossa volleying home left-footed to make the score 1-0. It was only the second minute, and Real Oviedo dominated right from the off. However, a cross from the left in the fifteenth minute saw José Corpas fire home the equaliser for Almería from the edge of the six-yard box. Javi Hernández responded by nudging an effort against the post. The Andalusian side then scored again from their next attack. Juan Carlos fired in from the edge of the box to make the score 1-2. ‘Los Azules’ once again took command of possession and the game from then on, but without scoring. Johannesson had the best chance, but René denied him, and the teams went in for halftime at 1-2.

Anquela wasted no time in bringing on Toché in the second half, as the team tried to fight back. Bárcenas had a chance on the counter, after Johannesson had carried the ball forward, but he fired over. Johannesson also shot over the bar after meeting Mossa’s cross first time. Real Oviedo went down to ten men as Javi Hernández was dismissed for a second yellow. Despite their numerical disadvantage, the Asturians continued to push forward in attack, but were unable to convert their chances, even after bringing on Steven. Omar Ramos made his debut in the final stages, but it wasn’t enough. Real Oviedo suffered a defeat which brought their positive recent run to a halt.

The next training session will be at 10:30 tomorrow (Sunday) at El Requexón.
