Real Oviedo defender, Carlos Martínez, appeared in the Press Room this morning, after yesterday’s match against UD Almería, in which he made his first league start for the club.

His feelings are “bad, because it’s always like that when you lose. A shame, because we were at home and had a good opportunity to continue our good run. We took the lead very quickly, but things swiftly went wrong. The two goals we conceded came very quickly. The team tried, but we didn’t create much afterwards. It was a hard-fought match with very few chances. They made the most of two of the three or four chances they had, while Javi (Hernández) hit the post for us. The second half got broken up a lot with a lot of fouls. We couldn’t put moves together because the game was stopped a lot.”

Asked about his position, the Basque commented that, “I have no problem at centre back or full back, but I hadn’t started for a long time. I felt good and tried to do things as simply as possible. I need match fitness to start to feel better and I’m working towards that.”

With respect to the impact of the defeat, Carlos Martínez explained that, “they always have an effect, but we have to come in on Tuesday with our batteries recharged. We have a very difficult away game against Granada. They are one of the best teams and it has to be a motivation. Following yesterday’s defeat, we have an opportunity to go to a good ground with all the desire in the world to get the three points.”

Regarding the injuries and whether they’re affecting the team, the defender highlighted that, “it’s clear they take away some of your options, but that’s football and it happens to every team. What you have to do is try to make it noticed as little as possible. It’s time for people to take responsibility; that’s how it has to be,” he concluded.
