Real Oviedo returned home and returned to winning ways. They did it with great desire, which perhaps bordered on anxiety at times, but which owed much to the way they were denied points last week in Tenerife.

With two changes to the starting eleven seeing Saúl and Linares coming in in place of Rocha and Nando, Real Oviedo wasted little time in opening the scoring. Toché made the most of some fine pressure on Murcia’s defence, who were trying to play their way out. He pinched the ball away from the defender and fired home to score the opening goal. It was only the second minute of the match, and Real Oviedo continued to dominate the early stages. The latter parts of the first half saw Real Oviedo control possession but without any great threat in attack. A low shot from Susaeta was held by the UCAM keeper, while an Erice shot from the edge of the box was deflected for a corner, in the clearest chances for Los Azules.

In the second half, Fernando Hierro was forced to reshuffle his defence following injury to Christian Fernández. Costas moved to left back, while David Fernández came on next to Verdés. Real Oviedo threatened more in attack, but without having anything to show for it. Three different Real Oviedo players tried to apply the finishing touch to one corner, with Saúl Berjón eventually firing into the visiting keeper’s hands. Jon Erice played in a fantastic cross from the left which saw Toché get ahead of the defenders, but just unable to reach it. Michu had a great opportunity from a long ball, which left him one on one with Fernando, but his low shot was denied by his opponent. Finally, in added time, and following fine interplay between Saúl and Michu, Borja Domínguez was able to curl home from the edge of the area, and seal a 2-0 victory.

Three more points which remain in Oviedo, and tomorrow the team will resume their work, ready for the next game, away at CD Lugo.
