Real Oviedo left Ciutat de Valencia empty-handed, despite having searched for an equaliser right up until the last second. Levante UD confirmed their promotion against an Oviedo side who never stopped battling.

With José Fernández playing at left back due to several absences in the defence, Real Oviedo grew increasingly confident as the minutes ticked by in the match. The Ciutat de Valencia Stadium was in a buoyant mood, hopeful of securing the three points necessary to be promoted today. Levante were first to try their luck, testing out Juan Carlos, who had to make several stops to keep the score goalless. Toché had a chance at the back post after a fine cross from the left wing, but the defence managed to turn it away for a corner. Shortly afterwards, Johannesson picked out Toché in the box, but Raúl was on hand to deny him. José Fernández then tried his luck with an effort towards the left-hand upright, and Raúl did well to hold onto it. Juan Carlos came out on top in a one-on-one with Roger, before Rocha had the final chance of the half, firing over the bar.

After the break, Real Oviedo remained comfortable in the encounter, but were unable to create too much in attack. It was then that Levante’s promotion-clinching goal arrived from a set play. Postigo’s header would prove to be enough to give the home side victory. Real Oviedo did respond, with a low shot from Rocha going wide, before the same man headed into the hands of Raúl from Johannesson’s right-wing cross. Toché’s volley was again denied by the home goalkeeper, and Michu and Nando were brought on to give the team some fresh legs. Toché had one last, ultimately fruitless, chance, before Nando failed to convert the final opportunity for Los Azules.

The team will return home tomorrow on a direct flight to Asturias, to resume training at 10:30 on Monday, at El Requexón.
