Real Oviedo left La Rosaleda empty-handed after a strange match, which brought a run of five games unbeaten to an end.
The first half saw Rozada's men stand up to the early attacks from the hosts, before Sangalli gave everyone a scare, after falling ill and being forced to leave the field.  He was replaced by Yoel Bárcenas.  Real Oviedo recovered without creating clear chances, but without coming under too much pressure either.  The two best opportunities of the half fell to Sangalli and Saúl, and both were denied by Málaga keeper Munir.
The second half brought the brightest spell of the match for Rozada's side, but Antoñito's goal put Málaga into the lead just as the Asturians were at their best.  In the 60th minute, the official gave a debatable penalty, without going to check the VAR monitor.  Adrián converted to make the score 2-0.  Rozada brought on first Joselu and then Ibra, and the latter cut the deficit going into the final minutes.  However, little happened from that point on, aside from Lolo receiving a second yellow card, and Real Oviedo were unable to claim any points from their trip to La Rosaleda.
