Lugo turned blue today as more than 1,000 Oviedistas took it upon themselves to line the streets with Carbayón pride. The eleven men on the pitch scaled the same heights, as they added the three points needed to restore the calm which had been lost following the defeat against Real Zaragoza

Real Oviedo started the match very strongly having made two changes to the starting eleven; bringing in Forlín and Ramon Folch in place of the injured Carlos Hernández and Tejera. Christian Fernández issued a warning when he headed a corner straight at the keeper. However, just one minute later Joselu opened the scoring, as he ran onto Ramon Folch’s fine pass to fire home. Lugo pushed forward further in attack following the opener, and had a goal of their own disallowed for offside, in what was their best chance of the first half. Bárcenas tried his luck from the left-hand side of the box, but his curler was straight into the hands of Juan Carlos. Alfonso Herrero then had to stretch to keep out an effort angled towards the top corner, but ‘Los Azules’ went in for the break with a 1-0 lead.

Bárcenas and Joselu again featured heavily in the first good chance after the break. The Panamanian eventually opted to shoot, with Joselu waiting for the pass, and the keeper stopped his shot. However, shortly afterwards, a textbook counter attack involving several Real Oviedo players eventually saw the ball roll to Javi Muñoz, with the midfielder curling home from the edge of the box to make the score 2-0. The Asturians then went through their toughest patch of the match, despite their substitutions. Lugo pushed forward and Anquela’s men had to work overtime in defence and try to make the most of counter attacks as the Galicians went in search of goals. Toché had the best chance. A fine run and pass from Javi Muñoz saw the forward through one-on-one with Juan Carlos, but the keeper denied him. Bárcenas had the penultimate opportunity as he ran onto Toche’s pass, but he was also thwarted by the shot stopper. Aarón Ñíguez hit the crossbar from a free kick, and Edu Cortina was unlucky with one final chance.

The three points returned to Oviedo along with 1000 Oviedistas, happy after seeing their team win in Lugo. The next training session will be at 10:30 tomorrow (Monday), at El Requexón.
