Real Oviedo needed a win and they got it. This was an afternoon where the team looked more like the side the Tartiere crowd had got used to seeing win, playing with intensity and courage. They created a lot more danger in attack, kept a clean sheet, and most importantly got three vital points to keep them in the fight for the playoff places.

Anquela made two changes to the starting line-up from last weekend in Soria, bringing in Linares up front in place of Toché and Fabbrini on the wing instead of Aarón. Real Oviedo struggled to create danger in the early minutes. The first chance came from Saúl Berjón’s shot from the left, which was kept out by the away keeper. Pina was sent off on the half-hour mark after bringing down Johannesson, who was breaking away on the counterattack. Shortly afterwards, Linares opened the scoring, giving Real Oviedo the lead in the process. Saúl crossed in from the left, Forlín flicked it on, and Linares spun and fired home from within the six-yard box. Real Oviedo didn’t have too many more opportunities before the break.

The Asturians threatened the Lorca goal during the opening stages of the second half but couldn’t find a way through. All the danger was being created down the left wing, and Johannesson’s header from Mossa’s cross forced a save from the goalkeeper. Fabbrini had a shot blocked and deflected out for a corner, while Saúl was again denied by Torgnascioli as he shot from the left. Rocha tried his luck from a rebound which fell at the edge of the box, but it grazed the crossbar on its way over. The Real Oviedo Captain would then score his second of the game, as he met Mossa’s cross from the by-line at the back post and headed home to seal the win.

These three points mean the team continues to fight for a playoff place. They return to training at 10:30 on Tuesday, at El Requexón.
