Real Oviedo left El Sadar empty-handed, after a match which had been marked as crucial for both sides’ playoff aspirations.

The Asturians tweaked the formation and made two changes to the starting eleven, bringing in Varela for the suspended Mossa and Hidi for Fabbrini. They managed to withstand their hosts during the first forty-five minutes. Following a mistake by the home defence, Linares was able to make the most of Real Oviedo’s first chance and put Los Azules into the lead. The match was only sixteen minutes old and Real Oviedo were intense and solid. They defended professionally and also manage to create some danger. Varela’s fine cross was claimed by Herrera as Linares was brought down in the box. Los Carbayones reached the break without any further difficulties, maintaining their lead.

Osasuna emerged for the second half intent on going for the win, and they created a lot of danger in the early stages. Los Azules continued to defend well until the 56th minute, when Alfonso brought down Ibáñez in the area, resulting in a penalty for the home side. Fran Mérida converted from the spot to equalise, and Real Oviedo began to push forward again in search of greater attacking threat. Anquela brought on Aarón in place of Hidi, but Osasuna grabbed their second shortly afterwards through David Rodríguez. Real Oviedo had the final chance of the game. A corner ended up with several efforts being blocked inside the area in added time. Eventually, the Asturians left El Sadar empty-handed.

The next training session will be at 18:00 on Monday, at El Requexón.
