Hours after the foundation of Real Oviedo on 26th March 1926, ‘La Voz de Asturias’ newspaper coined the slogan, “Oviedo por todo y ante todo” (‘Oviedo First and Foremost”).
Following years of rivalry between Real Stadium Club Ovetense and Real Cub Deportivo de Oviedo, the two teams joined together, and Real Oviedo was born.
The act to mark the club’s foundation took place at the headquarters of ‘La Voz de Asturias’ the very next day, in Calle de Gil de Jaz in Oviedo. The newspaper announced the birth of the club in an article which ended with the following phrase: *“Now we need to work together, perfectly in harmony, and leaving to one side things which used to be one way, but which no longer are and never again will be. Oviedo first and foremost: that must be our slogan going forward.”*
Since that moment we have achieved promotions and suffered relegations. We were the first Asturian team to reach the Primera División and the Asturian team to have been fewest points away from winning La Liga.
We have enjoyed the greatest Spanish goalscorer of all time, according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), with Isidro Lángara still holding various records to this very day. He has the best scoring ratio in the Primera División, most goals in a single official match for the Spanish national team, and the most consecutive hattricks in Primera matches, among other records.
We knew how to fight off several on-field and economic calamities, particularly at the beginning of the 21st Century, and we emerged stronger from them. We are now backed by tens of thousands of fans from all over the world as well as Grupo Carso, and we are pushing to get back into the top division of Spanish football.
Between 1926 and the present day, a total of 854 players have worn the Real Oviedo shirt in official matches. Scores of fans, spread across five generations, have supported the club, and gone out of their way to back it, showing unique loyalty.
More than 40,000 shareholders across more than 125 countries declare their *Oviedismo* with pride and make the Carlos Tartiere a point of pilgrimage all year round.
These are our strengths and make us unbreakable, because for exactly 92 years we have defended and loved Real Oviedo, first and foremost.
