Real Oviedo experienced a historic day this Tuesday. On Asturias' big day and coinciding with the year in which the blue entity celebrates its hundred years of existence, the club received the Medal of Asturias, the highest distinction awarded by the Principality.

The president of Grupo Pachuca and majority shareholder of Real Oviedo, Jesús Martínez Patiño, was responsible for receiving the recognition on behalf of the entity during the institutional ceremony in which the president of the Principality, Adrián Barbón, presented the Medal and the certificate of accreditation.

A recognition that highlights the trajectory of a club that, since its foundation in 1926, has been part of the history of Asturias and that for a century has transcended strictly sports to become one of the great symbols of identity of the region.

The distinction also comes at a particularly significant moment for Oviedismo. Real Oviedo celebrates its Centennial and does so looking to the future, but without forgetting a journey that has included great successes, unforgettable moments, and also periods of enormous difficulty in which the support of its fans and Asturian society was fundamental.

The awarding of the Medal took place on a particularly significant date for all Asturians. September 8, Asturias Day and the feast of Our Lady of Covadonga, served as the setting to publicly recognize the bond that Real Oviedo has maintained with its land for a century.

From that 1926 when the entity was born to the present day, generations of Oviedistas have supported the team and have made the blue sentiment an inseparable part of the life of the city and of Asturias.

In the year of the Centennial, the Medal of Asturias thus becomes part of a celebration that belongs to all those who have made the history of Real Oviedo possible: players, coaches, workers, leaders, and especially, a fanbase that has stood by the crest for a hundred years.

The day concluded with a speech by the president of the Principality, who thanked the honorees and dedicated kind words to each of them, followed by the performance of the Anthem of Asturias, putting the finishing touch on a day that is now part of the history of Real Oviedo.
