The Press Room at El Requexón today played host to the presentation of the award for September's 'Jugador Cinco Estrellas' Player of the Month, with Alfredo Ortuño claiming the prize. The forward, who is topscorer in the division and has been key to the side's attack in recent matches, was selected as the winner by the fans. Voters chose between the five players nominated by the beer company through their Twitter profile @futbolmahou, with the striker being presented with the award by Andrea Muñiz, from 'El Calderu', on behalf of Mahou.
After receiving the prize, Alfredo Ortuño declared himself "very happy with the recognition", adding that "I want to say thanks. I wasn't expecting it."
The attacker then analysed the team's victory in Albacete, stating that "it was hard for us in the first half and we were playing directly, but the team took two steps forward and produced a very complete second half. We created quite a lot and showed that we have heart. We took the initiative in the match and it says a lot about us." Regarding Borja's final-minute strike, Ortuño highlighted that "we've been on the other end of it before.
This team is mentally strong, we have learned, and that says a lot. We beat a great team in their own ground."
Asked about the fact the team has moved out of the relegation spots, the striker believes that "we have to look at the table after Matchday 42. It's true that we are more comfortable now, but we have to take it step by step and get wins."
With respect to the self-criticism posted by Joselu on social networks, Alfredo commented that "I know him and he is very demanding. I've been in his position. You give everything for the team but the goals don't come. He is going to give us a lot, he's a great player, and I'm happy to play alongside him. He must be happy on a daily basis, and he will score goals. He has always scored goals."
Speaking about the team's scoring record, the forward highlighted that "every goal is worth something, even when it hasn't given us the win. It tells us that we are attacking and that we create. It's important that we have players who score goals, because it will give us important points. We all defend, and we all try to score goals."
Finally, ahead of the next match, at home to Girona, Ortuño believes that "for me, they have the best squad in the division. It's going to be difficult and I think that we have to be organised and responsible in order to avoid conceding. We have to be intense, and give a little bit more."
