The Press Room at El Requexón today hosted the presentation of September’s ‘Jugador Cinco Estrellas’ Player of the Month award to Joselu. The forward has now earned himself a place in Juan Antonio Anquela’s starting eleven. In addition to the two goals he scored last month, he has also earned the affection of the fans due to his tireless work on the pitch. Joselu was chosen by fans of ‘Los Azules’, who selected between the five players nominated by the beer company on their Twitter profile @futbolmahou. The award was presented by Beatriz Alzola, from Casa Topete, on behalf of Mahou.

After being awarded with the prize, Joselu declared himself “very grateful to the fans for this prize”, saying that “it’s a sign of affection and a motivation to repay it on the pitch.”

Regarding the recognition of his work, as seen through the standing ovation he received last weekend at the Carlos Tartiere, the Andalusian said that, “here they ask you to give all you have and they repay you for it. For me it’s something non-negotiable. I’m grateful for the ovation from the fans.” In addition, with respect to the match and what the first three home points of the season mean, the striker reasoned that, “the team was anxious to give the fans a victory. We played well and took an important step. We emerged strongly from the start, which the fans latched on to, and we got a victory.”

Asked about the change in formation, Joselu commented that, “it doesn’t change much. We still press in the same way, and we defend better. The important things are the determination and the desire, as we showed on Sunday.” He also emphasised that, “the formation doesn’t matter. I don’t know which formation we will use. The important thing is to think about each opponent.”

With respect to the chances created by the wing backs joining the attack, the forward said that, “Diegui and Mossa are attacking players and you notice it. As long as the team wins I don’t care about anything else. I know what I need to work on and if the goals come then that’s great.”

Finally, regarding Sunday’s match at the Wanda Metropolitano, the forward wished to “encourage all the fans to go”, emphasising that “if a lot of people go they’ll give us energy. It will be a good match and a good experience, and I hope we can give them a victory.”
