Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room this morning, following the team’s penultimate training session ahead of Sunday’s match against Rayo Majadahonda at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Asked about the possibility of any of the injured players being ready in time, Anquela said that, “I don’t think we’ll get anybody back this week but I’m happy to see them running again. We are closer now. Spirits are higher. Football is all about emotions and you have to live in the moment. We won an important match on Sunday, and we did so while playing relatively well. The team pushed on, did things well, and we were still on the verge of not winning. We are going to keep working and fighting. The day we forget about those concepts we will have problems.”

In addition, talking about the team’s playing style against Albacete, the Coach highlighted that, “for two minutes after the break, we pushed on and camped in their area. We had tremendous intensity. At the end of the day, it’s the players who decide whether things have been done well. Every time I see a match, I remember the two home matches that I think we gifted away. Nobody played well against Zaragoza and against Elche we were lacking in a lot of areas. In both games, they were better than us. However, we could have won the other two comfortably.

With respect to this weekend’s opponent, Rayo Majadahonda, Anquela commented that, “I want to remind people that they have better numbers thanus at home. They’ve won two. That’s not easy. They are a team that does
things well and who won’t gift us anything. I have the match in my head, but then it begins and nothing you have planned works out. We are going to work hard, compete, and then hopefully get the luck you need in every
match. And hopefully we can win another match, because it would be very important for us.”

Regarding the formation he will use on Sunday at the Wanda, Anquela highlighted that, “it will be whichever we think is best for us. Sunday was like that. We looked at what we had and tried to make the most of it.
Last year we changed our way of playing many times, even within individual matches.”

Asked about the possibility of Aarón covering Yoel Bárcenas’ absence while the latter is away with Panama, the Coach highlighted the winger’s role in some matches where he has come on from the bench. “He was an important player for us last year and he’s playing this year. He is helping us with tremendous intensity every time he comes on. I have no doubts about him.”

Finally, regarding the B team players he will need to complete his matchday squad, Anquela explained that, “we have one training session to go but I’m delighted to take them. The only thing that annoys me is not being able to take four or five of my lads who are injured,” he concluded.
