On a day like today, June 9, in the year 1991, Real Oviedo defeated Castell贸n at the Carlos Tartiere and finished in sixth position in the First Division standings, which granted the Carbay贸n team the right to compete in the UEFA Cup.

The confirmation of Real Oviedo's qualification for the UEFA Cup came a few days later, when Atl茅tico de Madrid defeated Mallorca in the Copa del Rey final, which meant that the team finishing in sixth place in the First Division earned the right to play in the European competition.

Against Castell贸n, in that June 1991 match, corresponding to the last league matchday of the 1990-91 season, Real Oviedo's coach, Javier Irureta, initially fielded the following eleven: Viti, Gaspar, Gorriar谩n, Jerkan, Sa帽udo, Rivas, Berto, Elcacho, Gra膷an, Carlos, Sarriugarte. In the 80th minute, Gaspar was substituted by Paco, and in the 85th minute, Juli脿 replaced Carlos.

Five minutes into the match, Carlos scored the first goal of the game. That goal was the 1200th scored by Real Oviedo in the First Division. The 2-0 was scored by Berto in the 57th minute. Rivas scored the third goal for the Oviedo team in the 65th minute. The match ended with a 3-0 result.
