The Real Oviedo Museum is exhibiting a new award starting today, the statuette of the Libertas Prize of the Principality of Asturias, a distinction granted by the Civil Society Oviedo 21, which this year, in its fifth edition, has been awarded to our club.

The prize jury highlighted the fact that Real Oviedo will celebrate its first centenary in 2026, as well as “its constant presence in the public life of the city, its ability to represent Oviedo both within and outside Asturias, and its role as a space for coexistence, which has made it an essential element of the community fabric.”

The award was received during a solemn ceremony held at the Prince Felipe Auditorium-Congress Palace in the capital of Asturias by the vice president of Real Oviedo, Manuel Paredes.

Along with Real Oviedo, other recipients of the Libertas Prize of the Principality of Asturias in this edition, granted by the Civil Society Oviedo 21, include the writer and international relations consultant Marcelo Gullo, former politician Nicolás Redondo Terreros, and the entity Paisajes de Asturias. In addition to the corresponding statuette, the awardees received a certificate of recognition.

The Libertas Asturias Prizes aim to “recognize individuals and/or institutions committed to strengthening free societies through the active defense of the cause of freedom.” Their objectives are to contribute to the active defense of freedom, recognize the dedication of individuals and institutions to this task, promote the cause of freedom, and encourage the safeguarding of individuals and free societies.
