Real Oviedo has reached an agreement to appoint Julián Calero as the new head coach of the first team, signing with the Oviedo-based team until June 2027.

Julián Calero Fernández, 55 years old, was born on October 26, 1970, in Parla (Madrid). The new Oviedo coach developed his career as a footballer in various teams within Madrid's football scene, including AD Parla and CF Fuenlabrada, competing in the Third Division and Second Division B before retiring in 2000, a period he combined with his work in the Madrid Municipal Police.

His coaching career began in the youth academy of Atlético de Madrid, before moving on as an assistant coach at Rayo Vallecano. He later managed Real Madrid's Juvenil team and served as assistant coach for Real Madrid Castilla, thus beginning an extensive career in professional football.

His connection with Real Oviedo dates back to the 2016-17 season, when he was part of the coaching staff as an assistant coach under Fernando Hierro, giving him prior knowledge of the club, its working dynamics, and its competitive environment.

He has managed teams such as CF Rayo Majadahonda, Burgos CF, FC Cartagena, and Levante UD, achieving promotion to the First Division with the latter during the 2024-25 season. Additionally, he has served as an assistant coach for top-tier clubs and national teams, including FC Porto and the Spanish National Team, gaining international experience in high-level projects.

The new Oviedo coach will take charge of the first team at the start of preseason on July 6 at El Requexón. He will also be accompanied by his coaching staff, which includes Pedro Hernández as assistant coach and Roberto Ovejero as fitness coach.

Julián Calero will not make any statements until his official presentation.
