On a day like today, June 2, in the year 1958, Oviedismo celebrated their team's promotion to the First Division, certified the day before against Rayo Vallecano in Madrid.
Real Oviedo had to win at Rayo Vallecano's ground to achieve promotion. They triumphed 0-2. That day, the lineup of the Asturian team, coached by Abel Picabea, was as follows: Caldentey, Toni, Alarc贸n, Marigil, S谩nchez, Ferrer, Cuervo, Xirau, Aloy, Artabe, Chus Herrera. The two goals of the match were scored by S谩nchez and Aloy.
The team returned to Oviedo the following day, where they were greeted by tens of thousands of fans who took to the streets to celebrate the promotion. Acclaimed by the crowd, players, the coach, directors, and other members of the club headed to the Oviedo City Hall. There, they were honored by the municipal corporation.
