Real Oviedo were unable to break their curse at the Santo Domingo, although they did do enough to be deserving of doing so.

Having made two changes to the team which started last Sunday’s match, bringing in Alanís and Tejera in place of Mossa and Boateng, Real Oviedo emerged strongly for today’s game. During the opening stages, they threatened the home side’s goal with two crosses from wide areas and from a set piece move. Joselu had the best chance on the counter attack, but, under pressure from three defenders and the keeper, his shot grazed the far post. Alanís picked up an injury and asked to be replaced in the 16th minute. Mossa came on at full back, with Christian moving in to centre back. Alfonso was called into action to deny Juan Muñoz from a one-on-one, but was later unable to do anything to stop Dorca’s powerful strike, which made the score 1-0. Real Oviedo struggled to recover from the blow before the break.

Real Oviedo again began the second half the better side and had three good chances in the early stages of the second 45 minutes. First, a Saúl Berjón free kick was tipped over the bar by Dani Jiménez. Christian Fernández got his head to the resulting corner, but he was also denied by the home goalkeeper. Finally, Saúl Berjón broke through, but he fired wide. Then, however, following a very controversial refereeing decision, Juan Muñoz managed to convert from a free kick to double Alcorcón’s lead. Aarón and Ibra came on for Real Oviedo, and ‘Los Azules’ continued to push to cut the deficit. Joselu found the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed and a goal kick awarded, despite the fact that the ball had not gone out of play. The final whistle blew, and Real Oviedo returned to Asturias empty-handed.

The next training session will take place at El Requexón, at 18:00 on Tuesday.
