Borja Sánchez: "It's hard on a mental level"

The academy graduate discusses the difficulty of staying in top condition through solitary work, even though the first month hasn't seemed too long to him

There are no reactions yet. Be the first!
Real Oviedo youth-team product Borja Sánchez today became the latest first-team player to offer a press conference from his home, responding to the questions put to him by the media.
- One month of quarantine, done. How are you feeling?
Fine.  It doesn't seem like a month's passed already.  It hasn't seemed especially long, but I do want everything to get back to normal, and I hope we don't have to wait too long for that.
- There was a different training session this week with Samuel Sánchez. Did it help to break the monotony?
Samuel was a surprise for us; it was awesome.  I would like to thank him because it was a great touch to have him 'with' us.
- For a young player like yourself, how does an odd season like this one affect your progression?
It's difficult.  It breaks up your first season in LaLiga.  You were excited to finish it in the best way possible.  We don't know now whether we will finish it, nor how.  It's true that we are facing difficult situations, but there are millions of people suffering in the world.  The important thing is to look forward, and to be able to finish it as well as
possible.
- What are you noticing most on a physical level, and what are you focusing your work on?*
It's true that you suffer.  We are all training as best we can at home, and the coaching staff and employees have made themselves available to us and provided equipment.  However, you miss the day-to-day stuff with your teammates.  Putting your boots on and getting out on the pitch; there's nothing like that.  But we are preparing ourselves so that when we are able to start playing again we can just do a short preseason and then be at 100%.
- Is it hard mentally to work alone and without a concrete timeframe for returning? What reflections have you made during this period?
On a mental level it's very hard.  It's a new situation for everyone, but you try to deal with it as well as you can.  You watch the news and see the situation in the country and in the whole world, and you value being well and at home.  Having good health is the most important thing.
- How do you make the most of your free time?
I try to follow a training routine, read quite a lot, cook, watch series and films and play board games and Playstation.  The time is going quickly for me.
I would like to send my regards and encouragement to all Oviedistas.  We will see each other again soon!
