Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón following the week’s final training session on Asturian soil.
The Coach began by weighing up his team’s week of work, highlighting that “it’s been very calm. We’ve trained at a good level and got some players back. We can’t complain.”
Elaborating further about those players who are now back fit and called into the matchday squad, Anquela believes that, “it’s very good news that we can now call upon Viti and Verdés. They are lacking a bit of sharpness, but they are ready to travel with the team.” In addition, regarding Aarón’s injury, he stated that, “he has a strain and we must be cautious. He is one of our highest scoring players and his absence affects us. If we were to talk about the injuries that have affected the team, we could write a book. We are going to take our time bringing people back.”
Asked about yesterday’s training match against Vetusta and the role these workouts play in the weekend matches, the Carbayón coach stated that, “it’s a time to be calm. You can watch and see things calmly. At every club I’ve been at I’ve put on a match against the B team every week. We have a good opponent up in front of us, and often we only don’t put on more sessions like that so as not to alter the B team’s schedule. It’s good for Real Oviedo, both for the first and second team, because those players show that they are ready to do good things.”
With respect to the return of Fabbrini and whether he had spoken to the Italian, the Coach said that, “I’ve spoken with him and everything is very clear. The medical team will decide when he’s ready. I wish I could pick him tomorrow, but we must stay calm and be sure that when he comes back in he will be at 100%.” Furthermore, he believes that, “getting people back fit is good news. I’m the one with the problem now. I want that type of problem. I want to look and have a dilemma when it comes to picking the team.”
Real Oviedo go to the Artés Carrasco on Saturday to face Lorca. Regarding the Murcian side and their league position, Anquela commented that, “I respect everyone, and give every team maximum respect. They are a good team. They do things well, and they had a convincing win last time out against a good Nástic side. If we don’t know what we are up against we will be making a mistake. Nobody is given anything for free in this division. To do things well we must work hard for a long time.”
One change for the Lorca match could see Yeboah come into the side in place of Aarón. Regarding the winger’s performances in recent weeks, Anquela stated that, “it’s very simple. I set the requirements, and he plays for Real Oviedo. If Yeboah uses his quality for the club’s benefit, then there’s no problem. If he plays in a different way then I don’t like it, but that goes for everyone. If he does things as he has recently, then he is going to get minutes. He’s in good form, doing things well, and earning his place in the team.”
Finally, regarding the league position, and the team’s fine past month, the Real Oviedo Coach believes that, “we don’t need to look at the table. It doesn’t matter if we are at the top or bottom. Everything that happens is about staying calm and knowing what we are aiming for at all times. We can’t get ahead of ourselves. We have to get consecutive wins week-after-week. If we do things wrongly, then the division will punish us. The important things are the next match, how to approach it, and the manner of competing in it. My philosophy is based upon building a team that knows what it wants, and that has the necessary concentration to compete in this division,” he concluded.
