Anquela: "We are looking to win"

The Coach highlights the need to “improve our solidity” away from the Tartiere “if we want to get a positive result”

Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room this lunchtime to analyse the state of his team ahead of the trip to Las Palmas. “Mossa and Boateng are fine. They didn’t train yesterday as a precaution. You know about all the rest.”

As the team goes looking for a positive result, the Coach declared that, “we are looking to win. We’ve got to go to Las Palmas, and we know the difficulties we’ll face against this opponent. It’s clear that we started the season well away from home, but we haven’t got any points for a while. It’s something we’ll need to improve on if we want to get a positive result.”

Anquela was then asked about two specific players; Ramon Folch, who has just signed a new contract, and Yoel Bárcenas, who is in fine form. He responded that, “I’m very happy about Ramon and I think that Real Oviedo have made a good move. With Bárcenas, all I ask is that he’s at the level we need.”

With respect to the recent injuries to Saúl and Joselu, the Coach explained that, “Saúl pushed himself because the team needed him and then he broke down. Joselu’s injury came from a normal passage of play. He was fatigued and hit an amazing shot, but that’s where the problem came from. We are all participating and engaged, and now it’s time for someone who hasn’t been playing to feature. I’m sure they’ll do well.”

Regarding the experiments he’s done with formations this week, Anquela stated that, “I’ve had things clear for a long time, but if we have to change things then we’ll do so. We have to work in different ways because injuries force us to. The easiest thing for me would be for us to play in the way I have in my head, but it’s not possible because we have people missing. We always try to be as balanced as possible.”

The Real Oviedo Head Coach reasoned that what the team needs to improve on away from home is “being more solid. I can complain about results but not about my team’s attitude. Nobody gifts you anything and you only need to look at our next opponent to see the potential and the players they have. They have a lot of experience in the Primera División. They’ve changed little in terms of players following the change in coach. They’re very good.”

Regarding the steps forward taken by the club as they continue to build a project for the future, Anquela explained that, “it’s very important, because if you have to sign fourteen players every year then you’re doing something wrong. We have to be patient, stay calm, and believe in what is being done. The club has everything thoroughly planned, has belief in what is being done and is trying to create strong, solid foundations. The day will come when the strings can be loosened a little and we can try to sign players to make the difference, but that takes time. Things are being done well from an economic perspective, and the on-field side will continue to grow,” he concluded.
