Real Oviedo picked up a point against CD Numancia this afternoon, in a match in which they were unfortunate to twice trail, but were pushed on to salvage a draw by a vociferous crowd at the Carlos Tartiere Stadium.

A couple of changes to the starting eleven from the last match in Cádiz saw Edu Bedia and Michu start the match for Real Oviedo. However, they swiftly found themselves a goal behind, when a clearance from Michu unfortunately found the back of the net. Fernando Hierro’s side got straight back on level terms though. A direct, quick, precise attack saw Verdes play a searching ball down the right wing for José Fernández, whose cross was met by Toché to head past Munir. Real Oviedo searched for the second goal before the halftime interval, but Toché this time fired at the opposition keeper, with a driven strike from the left hand side of the box. Michu struck a shot over the bar after Toché had combined with Linares to create the opportunity. The scoresheet read 1-1 when halftime arrived.

The first chance of the second half again fell to Toché, who won the duel with the two centre backs following a long ball from Michu, but his shot hit the side netting. Shortly afterwards, Toché had another attempt, but his long range effort was kept out by Munir. Numancia then regained the lead through Manu del Moral on the counterattack, and so Real Oviedo had to come from behind again. The Tartiere drove their men on, and again saw them quickly back level, with Nando now on the pitch. The winger won a battle for the ball on the left hand side, and his ball towards goal was inadvertently diverted into the net by a Numancia defender. There was still a decent amount of time remaining in the match, but Real Oviedo couldn’t find the winner. Michu had the best opportunity with a strike from the edge of the area but it was kept out by the goalkeeper. The final whistle saw the match finish 2-2, in the first of two matches which Real Oviedo will face at the Carlos Tartiere this fortnight.

The first training session this week will take place tomorrow from 10:30 at El Requexón.
