A win worth much more than the usual three points. Real Oviedo were able to pick up their reward this evening in a bouncing Carlos Tartiere befitting the occasion. The lively atmosphere began with fans welcoming their team to the stadium, before almost 19,000 fans took to the stands to cheer their team on to victory, in a match where they had quickly found themselves trailing.

Following Néstor Susaeta’s goal being incorrectly disallowed by the referee, Cádiz opened the scoring. Álvaro managed to turn home the rebound after the Real Oviedo defence had denied the initial attempt. The score remained this way until the final stages of the first half, with Real Oviedo pushing increasingly further up the field in search of the equaliser. Eventually Saúl Berjón’s cross was headed home by Miguel Linares at the back post, making the score 1-1 just before the interval.

Real Oviedo emerged for the second half in pursuit of victory, keeping control of the match. Following a warning shot from Susaeta which went just over the bar, the same man put a cross into the heart of the box which was met perfectly by the head of Christian Fernández to notch the second, and ultimately decisive, goal for Los Azules.

The last few minutes saw Real Oviedo holding Cádiz at arm’s length, with the visitors only testing Juan Carlos on one occasion. The crowd gathered in the Carlos Tartiere were boisterous and enjoyed a crucial triumph for their side.

Real Oviedo will return to training on Tuesday at 10:30, at El Requexón.
