The Press Room at El Requexón today saw Cuco Ziganda speak to the media ahead of the Mallorca match.
After another week's training, the Gaffer began today's press conference by evaluating the atmosphere around the team going into the weekend, saying that "we are doing well. We have trained and recovered from Sunday's disappointment. We are hungry to turn it around against one of the top teams in the division."
Regarding possible changes to the eleven, one of them enforced by Christian Fernández's suspension, Ziganda highlighted that "we have everyone else available and we will decide. Alejandro (Arribas) or Carlos (Hernández) are both at the top of their games, and one will come into the defence. Having everyone available, except Christian, means anyone could play. We need them all and it's good for the team. We haven't decided on the team yet, we are looking at the options." In addition, with respect to a possible change in midfield and the introduction of Javi Mier, Ziganda believes that "Javi and Jimmy are training well and might play. I have no doubts about anybody. Edgar and Tejera give the team consistency. I have confidence in all of our central midfielders and we will see what we do."
Real Oviedo didn't have their best evening against Leganés on Sunday and gave too much away on the night. The Coach stated that "we've talked. We weren't good at all. They outplayed us and beat us in many areas of the game, but we are moving on now. We know that match has been and gone now, and we are going into the next one with morale and confidence."
Discussing the next opponent, Mallorca, the Gaffer highlighted that "the numbers their team has are not by chance. We came from behind in the reverse fixture, we pushed and hurt them. Mallorca have a lot of points, concede very little, and have good players. They are the most complete team in the division, but we will get chances."
Finally, asked about his team's defensive flaws, Ziganda commented that "we would like to improve. The teams that get a lot of points are the ones which show defensive solidity and are compact. We are lacking consistency in that aspect, but we mustn't keep going over it. It's a matter of keeping our heads, working, and doing things better. We have to work hard and fight for it. Having a good balance wins you points. We would like to have more, but there's still a lot of work to do. Nothing is done yet. We have to play Mallorca, then Ponferradina, then Alcorcón. We have to take it week by week, not get distracted, and focus on each match. There are still a lot of points to play for."
