Matchday 30 in LaLiga SmartBank took Real Oviedo to the Visit Mallorca Estadi to face RCD Mallorca. The match ended in a 0-0 draw.
Ziganda opted to make changes to his starting eleven today, bringing Arribas, Lucas and Blanco Leschuk into the starting eleven. Los Azules took to the field against the league leaders with a line-up made up of Femenías;
Juanjo Nieto, Grippo, Arribas, Lucas; Sangalli, Edgar, Tejera, Borja Sánchez; Blanco Leschuk and Nahuel.
The hosts emerged the stronger for the first half, forcing Femenías into a fine save inside the opening minutes of the encounter. However, Real Oviedo slowly grew to dominate the match, playing the majority of the first half inside the opposition's half, albeit without creating any clear chances. Ziganda's side demonstrated great defensive solidity and barely conceded any opportunities to Luis García Plaza's team. The two sides went in for
halftime with the score 0-0.
As had happened in the first half, Mallorca began the second half on top, forcing the Asturians to work hard in defence. The home side played the majority of the opening stages of the second forty-five minutes in Real Oviedo's half. However, Borja Sánchez had a double chance to put Los Carbayones into the lead, twice being denied by home keeper Manolo Reina. Obeng and Borja Valle came on to freshen the visitors up in the final
stages. The closing minutes also saw Carlos Hernández come on for an injured Arribas. Real Oviedo had a late opportunity to claim the winner, but Salva Sevilla cleared Grippo's effort off the line, in what was the closest either side went to breaking the deadlock.
Ziganda's side secured a point away at the league leaders with a very solid defensive performance, at a ground where very few away teams have won points this season. Tomorrow will see Real Oviedo begin to prepare for next weekend's fixture against Ponferradina.
