Two Points Slip Away

A point feels like scant reward for a Real Oviedo side which took the lead on two separate occasions

Matchday 26 in LaLiga Smartbank took Real Oviedo to Madrid to face Fuenlabrada at the Fernando Torres stadium. The match ended all-square, with the two teams taking home a point apiece.
Cuco Ziganda opted to stick to the same starting eleven he had used against Lugo, and his side emerged more strongly for today's game than their opponents. Los Carbayones dominated the first half and had the better of the chances. Displaying the defensive solidity which has become the norm for the side in matches at the NMR Carlos Tartiere, Real Oviedo began to take control of the match and attempted to find a way through. In the 13th
minute Juanjo Nieto swung a free kick into the box, and Bolaño knocked the ball down for Sangalli to open the scoring. The referee initially disallowed the goal, before VAR confirmed that the goal was valid. Gustavo
Blanco Leschuk and Borja Sánchez both had clear opportunities to extend the lead for Los Azules.
The halftime interval saw Carlos Hernández come on to replace Bolaño. Fuenlabrada looked to build combination play to threaten Femenías' goal, but Real Oviedo continued the attempts to double the lead. In the 56th
minute, Pathe Ciss brought down Borja Sánchez and was dismissed for a second yellow card. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Fuenlabrada equalised to make the score 1-1 shortly afterwards. Ziganda turned to his bench to bring on Rodri Ríos and Borja Valle, with the latter putting the Asturians back into the lead. However, the joy would not last long for Real Oviedo, as Fuenlabrada levelled once more from the very next passage of play. Los Carbayones went looking for a winner in the final stages, but
could not convert from any of the opportunities they created.
This point felt like scant reward for Real Oviedo, who will return to Oviedo tonight. The side will begin to prepare for the weekend's fixture against Real Zaragoza tomorrow.
