Real Oviedo striker, José Verdú Nicolás “Toché” appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón following this morning’s training session.

After his role in yesterday evening’s win over Almería, as he contributed a goal to the Real Oviedo victory, the Carbayón forward admitted, “I really wanted to play at home in front of our fans. I am happy with the goal and with being able to help the team. Now we need to push on.” Furthermore, with regard to his feelings on an individual level, Toché stated that, “I got some minutes, which I had been keen to do. I’m still lacking a bit physically. I need to improve and fight, and contribute to the team.”

Speaking about the team’s performance against the Andalusian side, Toché argued that, “we weren’t great in the first half, but we reacted with class and pride to get the win. The team has evolved a lot, and it’s hard to score against us. We are united, on a good run, and I hope it continues.”

The victory over Almería kept Real Oviedo third in the table, and extended their unbeaten run to eight matches. Regarding the league position, the striker said that, “it’s nice to see us up at the top, it’s been hard
work. There’s a long way to go, and we need to keep going with humility. If you analyse the team, we have the squad to challenge. We have battled, but we mustn’t just talk the talk. We need to show that we are going to be up there.”

Finally, asked about Juan Antonio Anquela’s declarations, in which the Coach commented that there are no easy opponents, Toché stressed that, “we Nmust take it step by step. Reus are the next opponent, and there are three more points available to help us keep fighting. There’s a long way to go, and the Coach reminds us of that every day,” he concluded.
