Real Oviedo Head Coach Sergio Egea appeared in the Press Room at the Carlos Tartiere today.

Before beginning the press conference, the Coach wished to say some words of affection towards Adolfo Pulgar, who died in the past few hours, saying he was “a person who I had a lot of empathy with. I send my deepest condolences. He was a vocational footballer and a much-loved person.”

After sending his condolences, the Argentine analysed the state of the pitch after it was recently relaid and said that “it seems good to me. We will try to adapt to it, but it will get better and better. The ground looks different. They’ve done a great job.”

The first home fixture of the new season will take place at the Carlos Tartiere this weekend. Regarding the match, Sergio Egea commented that “it will be hard-fought. We are going to have to give everything we have and make the ground a fortress. I hope to see a daring Real Oviedo who play in the opposition’s half. I think that as long as we stick to our defensive responsibilities we can press. We feel good and we are going to try to get into the opposition half.” With respect to Lugo, the Coach reminded that “I respect every opponent. They have good players and a good coach, and we have to be focused. We have to try to be the team we want to be and then carry it over to the Tartiere. We want lively matches, with pace and a spark.”

Asked whether the club will be able to register the unregistered players with LaLiga, the Argentine reassured that “I am fine. The club gives me assurances. Everything will be solved between today and tomorrow. I am patient and tolerant. Everything has a solution. The club is doing its part to solve all the issues. We are working very well and I’m sure we are going to compete.” In addition, regarding the impact this matter could have on the matchday squad, Egea pointed out that “I’m going to see if the registrations are sorted and then we’ll decide what’s best. I have a very good squad and I’m sure that we are going to be intense and better.”

With respect to his team’s style of play, the Coach stated that “we are going to take risks. We are a great team and we have to be daring. It’s true that this entails risks, but my understanding of football is about pushing forward. Statistically, opponents struggle at the Tartiere. This is a tough ground to go to and it has to stay that way. We have to be intense, make sure we have a balance and work hard.”

Finally, talking about what he expects of the Carlos Tartiere, Egea concluded that “I have respect for the fans and they always support us. The fans are loyal to the badge and we have to excite them. It’s true that it’s a long season. That’s why we want to enjoy each week and we want to try to do it hand-in-hand with the fans, with unity. This is a group effort and we all have to add.”
