Real Oviedo goalkeeper Alfonso Herrero appeared in the Press Room this morning following the team’s return to training at El Requexón. Analysing yesterday’s draw at the Tartiere, the shot stopper highlighted that “Lugo made it a difficult match for us. There were periods where we played well, and others where we didn’t. We have areas to improve on, such as losing points in the final minutes of matches. That’s what has cost us a lot in the two games so far.”
With respect to the goal conceded, Alfonso explained that “from the back I saw the team fully-engaged for the whole match. It was very demanding and we didn’t have a lot of the ball, but we stood up to the opponent’s onslaught. The goal came from the rebound from a shot from the edge of the box. I don’t think they have been big mistakes from a lack of concentration. They are things which happen during matches, and obviously we have to iron them out. Everyone takes responsibility for their mistakes, and we keep moving forward.”
Speaking individually, Alfonso stated that “the sensations are good, even if I obviously have a bitter taste in my mouth after that final passage of play. It doesn’t matter how well we play, as keepers if we make a mistake then that’s it. I will keep giving everything in training and improving so that every time the Coach needs me I can play for this club with pride.”
Now in his fourth season at Real Oviedo, the keeper concluded by saying that “when I’ve not been playing I’ve trained well, and I think that Nereo (Champagne) and I complement each other well. I hope to keep contributing as much as possible to the team. I’m hungry for the team to have a good year.”
