Scant Reward at Las Palmas

Real Oviedo picked up a point which felt like very little reward for their performance and chances, in addition to the controversial decisions in the area which didn’t go in their favour.

Real Oviedo made just one, enforced, change to the line-up from last weekend, owing to the injury to Joselu. The first chance fell to Mossa inside the first minute of the clash. The wing back struck a ball first time at the back post, but his shot went over the bar. Champagne intervened well to deal with a counter attack, but Real Oviedo’s control of possession meant they were not under any significant pressure. Javi Muñoz tried his luck with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, as did Johannesson. Alanís also had a similar effort, and his volley grazed the crossbar.

The hosts increased their possession in the second half, but Christian Fernández could have given ‘Los Azules’ the lead, as he headed just wide from a corner. The Asturians maintained their standards and their defensive solidity, and were twice denied penalties when players were brought down in the box. They also suffered another harsh punishment, as Christian saw a second yellow card.

This draw felt like very little reward. The team will begin to prepare for the next match at 18:00 on Tuesday, at El Requexón.
