Real Oviedo suffered their first defeat of preseason due to a penalty conceded against SD Eibar at El Malecón. Anquela brought the three newest summer signings into the Real Oviedo starting line-up. Mariga, Hidi and Cotugno came into the team, which took the field with three deep-lying central midfielders for the first time under the new coach. Real Oviedo once more displayed defensive solidity, and Alfonso Herrero was only forced into serious action from one direct free kick. One further effort for Eibar was the other main chance of the first half, as Real Oviedo struggled to create danger. Aarón had the best chance with a shot from the left-hand side from Linares’ long ball, but Dmitrovic parried it wide for a corner.

Moving into the second half, and with the bench being increasingly used, Real Oviedo grew into possession and the match, as well as creating more in attack. A fine effort from Pucko which was cleared for a corner, a shot from Saúl towards the top corner parried for a corner after some fine play by Edu Cortina, and Verdés’ header from a set piece were the best Real Oviedo chances in the second half. However, Kike García had already given Eibar the lead in the early stages of the half from the penalty spot.

Real Oviedo will rest until Tuesday, at 18:30, when they will train at El Requexón.
