As part of our efforts to care for and pay homage to our past, and keep itvalive, and in the same way that the Real Club Deportivo Oviedo shirt wasvused last year to celebrate the centenary of its foundation, we will bevusing Real Oviedo's 94th anniversary to commemorate another of our foundervclubs. This time it is the turn of Real Stadium Club Ovetense. This year marks 100 years since the first derby matches between the two founder teams.
The two Oviedo sides first met during the 1919-20 season. They first faced each other at Teatinos, home of Real Club Deportivo Oviedo, before later meeting at Llamaquique, with Real Stadium Club Ovetense the hosts. The first match was played in October and ended in a 1-0 win for the home side, while the return fixture saw Real Stadium Club Ovetense triumph 5-1.
These were derbies with a lot of passion, determination and battling, and the prize of becoming the pride of the city was always at stake. The derby was played throughout the following seasons, until 26th March 1926, when the two teams of the Asturian capital joined together to give birth to Real Oviedo. The act of foundation of the new club was signed that afternoon, with the club being born under the name Real Oviedo Foot-ball Club. The symbols of the city (the colour blue and the Cruz de los Ángeles cross)
were adopted. Under the presidency of Carlos Tartiere, the objective was ambitious. The new club had to adapt to the new times that were arriving in football, which was an activity that was gaining an ever-bigger following in society at the time.
As Real Oviedo turns 94 today, the club remains true to its principles, with orgullo, valor y garra (pride, courage and drive) as singular characteristics. The club has not forgotten its roots, remembering that, in an exceptional situation like the current one, we are stronger together and that there is no braver strength than the feeling of Oviedismo, which is present throughout the whole world in the souls of Los Carbayones' fans.
The shirt is in the colours of Real Stadium Club Ovetense and will be available for purchase through our online shop, with two special circumstances in place given the exceptional situation we are currently undergoing:
- Our commitment is normally to fulfill orders within 24 hours, but orders are going to suffer delays in this case.
- For this same reason, the usual season-ticket discount (10% on all products in the anniversary collection) will be applied to all purchases, whether or not they are made by season- ticket holders, until 31st March, as part of a special launch offer. (We understand that there could be season-ticket holders who do not have their physical season-ticket card available, or cannot access it due to the exceptional situation we are going through).
The 94th anniversary shirt will have a basic price of €79.95 for adults and €69.95 for children (for whom a discount of 10% will be applied on all purchases made before 31st March). In the same way as last year, the shirt will come in a commemorative box. The club will make a scarf marking the anniversary available to Oviedistas too, priced at €16.90.
