Head of Projects for International Shareholders James Harriman and Real Oviedo Foundation Captain Pelayo Novo held an informal meeting with British journalist and Oviedista Sid Lowe this week to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the 2012 share campaign. A wide-ranging conversation saw the past, present, and future of the movement discussed.
Harriman and Pelayo began by expressing gratitude for the journalist’s vital role in saving the club in 2012, and for his contribution to spreading Oviedismo around the world, both at that time and in the subsequent decade. The crucial importance of the union between fans locally in Asturias and Spain and new fans from around the world was discussed, while a special mention was given to the parts played by certain key figures including Juan Mata, Michu, Santi Cazorla, Adrián López, Spencer Owen, Rodolfo Díaz, Matías García, and many more.
Future plans for our international supporters were then discussed, with ideas exchanged regarding the best ways to maintain and strengthen our links to our fans around the world. One of the key matters discussed was the importance of facilitating information and communication with international fans, in order to help fans to overcome the unique challenges presented when
following the club from afar.
One of the first big steps of this renewed project will take place between 25 th and 28 th November, with the reintroduction of the annual Supporters’ Weekend. A group of shareholders from the UK, Ireland, the USA, and the Netherlands, will travel to Oviedo to take part in four days of activities prepared by Real Oviedo and the Foundation, as well as attending the match against Mirandés. They will be given a behind-the-scenes look at all areas of their club, as well as being invited to get to know the city and its culture.
We would like to issue a reminder that fans from around the world are able to contact the club directly via email at supporters@realoviedo.es, from where they can request their share certificates, organise trips to matches, and put forward all of their suggestions.
Thanks, as always, for your time, dedication, and Oviedismo, Sid. We will always be Proud of You.
