Mossa: “We have to play this match as if it were the last one”

The defender emphasises that every point is “vital, be it at home or away”, and insists that the team must focus only on the Nàstic clash

Real Oviedo defender, Mossa, appeared in the Press Room this morning following the team’s training session at El Requexón.

The full back, who didn’t start last Sunday in Lugo due to the change in system, is looking forward to the game against his old club, Nàstic de Tarragona. Real Oviedo go into this week in a different mood having won last weekend, and Mossa said, “we are happy, because above all else we needed to win, and we did it. It was an important victory. The match wasn’t decisive, but it was always going to affect what we have coming
up. It’s hard for every team away from home. We hadn’t been playing badly away, and now every point is vital, be it at home or away. In addition, it gives us confidence going into this Sunday.”

Asked about the importance of playing two consecutive matches at the Carlos Tartiere, Mossa warned that, “sometimes you think that, because it’s at home, it’s going to be easier, but that is not the case at all. The best way to go into it is thinking that this is the last match, and that nothing else matters. However, it’s obvious that we always prefer to play at the Tartiere.”

With respect to the current form of this weekend’s opponents, with Nàstic having won two consecutive matches, the Valencian commented that, “it will have made them calmer, but you never know. Sometimes it gives you confidence and they are arriving in form, but sometimes you can relax too much. You never know. At this stage of the competition form isn’t worth much.”

Regarding the strength of the Catalan side away from home, Mossa explained that, “almost all the matches are decided on small details, and it’s possible that things are going their way in away games and not at home. It seems that they are beginning to balance their results out more now.”

Prepared to contribute from whichever position the Coach asks him to play, Mossa said that, “I’m calm. The Coach knows that he can count on me, and he is the one who decides. Everything he does is because he thinks it’s for the best at that time. It’s different at wing back because you have to contribute much more in attack, whereas at full back you have to be more balanced. You have to defend more than you do at wing back and contribute when you can in attack.”

Finally, with respect to Sunday’s match against Nàstic at the Tartiere, Mossa stated that, “they are a team that try to make the most of their chances on the counter. Maybe they let you have the ball more and then go looking for you when you are more open. They have won a lot of away games by letting their opponent take the initiative and making the most of their opportunities.”
