To mark the match played by our first team at the Reale Arena in San Sebastián this Sunday, the Real Oviedo directors wished to make an emotional gesture to mark our former player Isidro Lángara, whose family resides in Guipúzcoa.
Real Oviedo Club President Jorge Menéndez Vallina was joined by Vice President Manuel Paredes as they presented Asier Guerrero Lángara with a photo framed in blue leather and featuring a carved version of the club badge. The photo shows the legendary shot by the Basque striker as he scored a great goal at the Metropolitano stadium in 1935.
The club directors had the chance to remember the greatness of Lángara together with his family members Juan Carlos Exteberria, and Asier Guerrero, who is also a Real Oviedo shareholder.
Isidro Lángara Galarraga joined the Real Oviedo first team in 1930 at the age of 18. He went on to become considered the greatest striker in the world having been top scorer in LaLiga on three separate occasions, and starred at the 1934 World Cup.
To this day Isidro Lángara holds the best goal-per-game ratio of any player in the history of the Spanish First Division. He is considered the best Spanish goalscorer of all time by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
