The Press Room at the Carlos Tartiere today hosted the presentation of our official second kit, bringing together Real Oviedo, the Spanish Association Against Cancer (Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer), and representatives from HUCA Hospital.
To mark World Breast Cancer Day, Real Oviedo has released a charity kit to add its support to all those who are fighting against the disease, with the club raising funds for the Spanish Association Against Cancer.
The act was presented by Fernando Corral, Vice President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer Margarita Collado, and Head of Oncology at HUCA Hospital Luis Olay. They expressed their opinions regarding the visibility and awareness of the disease, as well as underlining the advances being made in research, and stressing the importance of rapid detection of the illness. Both Margarita Collado and Luis Olay expressed their gratitude to Real Oviedo for the club's solidarity in promoting the initiative.
Fernando Corral, meanwhile, provided the details of a project which the club has been involved with since last November, and which will reach its climax in the match against Burgos this Thursday. The fixture will see the shirts bear the sponsorship of the Spanish Association Against Cancer for the first time. After the match the shirts will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the charity. The auction will be held through the MatchWornShirt platform.
The Spokesman for the Real Oviedo Board of Directors also announced that the kit will go on sale in official stores and online from Friday. With charitable aims and inspiration, the shirt will be used as the second kit throughout the season.
Finally, Fernando Corral wished to express his gratitude to everybody who has collaborated in this initiative. These include season-ticket holders, professionals, cancer patients and their families, and Real Oviedo and Real Oviedo Femenino players. The club would also like to thank Marta, the Head of Iglesia Skate, who permitted us to use the colours of her deconsecrated church, which has been converted into a place of friendship and sport for young people, as a reflection of life, hope and excitement, free of charge.
Through this initiative the club from the capital of Asturias has again shown its more charitable side, encouraging people to continue collaborating with the Spanish Association Against Cancer. Despite the enormous advances on a scientific and medical level in recent years, a lot can still be done and cancer patients and their families need our support on a material level, so that research can continue and so that the battle is as bearable as possible. They also need our support and affection, as well as to spread awareness regarding the importance of prevention.
