Juan Carlos: “If the team keeps competing like this then the victory will come”

The goalkeeper warned of the necessity to approach an Albacete side in need of points “with complete respect and humility”, and with the objective of winning away from the Tartiere

Real Oviedo goalkeeper, Juan Carlos, appeared in the Press Room this morning following team training at El Requexón.

The keeper began by commenting on the good atmosphere surrounding the team, as reflected in the points gained from the past few matches, and by evaluating the good state of the team. “The truth is that we were doing things well right from the first match, but we found it difficult to pick up wins. Now the hard work and good sensations have been turned into victories, which is what ultimately counts. I’m happy about that, and we must continue in that way, because that is what takes you towards the top of the table.”

In addition to winning, Juan Carlos declared his happiness at keeping a clean sheet. “I am happy about winning more than anything else, as well as the atmosphere around the team, but a goalkeeper is always happier when he keeps a clean sheet.”

Regarding the next match in Albacete, and the need to pick up a victory away from the Carlos Tartiere, Juan Carlos was calm and convinced that “if we compete well as we did in Almería and in Gijón, the victory will come.
I don’t know when. Hopefully it will be this Sunday, but above all we must keep doing what we’ve been doing until now away from home. The team is competing well; in Gijón we ended the game camped in their half, and we
feel good. This doesn’t necessarily mean that we will win on Sunday, but we hope to see it translated into points.”

With respect to his return to Albacete, Juan Carlos said that “it was the hardest season of my career there; it was like a Master’s! Each time you go back to an old club you encounter people you used to work with, and I’m happy about that. I wish them luck, after Sunday!”

Finally, and with regards to the state of this weekend’s opponent who only have one point so far, Juan Carlos stated that “in this division it’s almost normal and there’s hardly anything that surprises you. In such an
even league, anyone can beat anybody else. The mood there is what it is, and the situation will place them under pressure to perform. It’s a tricky game for that reason; they have a lot at stake. They still haven’t won a game, but if we don’t go there with the humility and respect that Albacete deserve then we will have a bad time of it. If we manage to play our own game well, then the atmosphere there could possibly help us at certain
times, but it doesn’t guarantee you anything. Above all we need to show maximum respect and forget about their situation.”
