Anquela: “There’s no favourite in this match”

The Real Oviedo Head Coach states that “we haven’t beaten anybody so well as to be overconfident” before the trip to Albacete, and issues a reminder of the need to “always be a team”

Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room following a training session behind closed doors at El Requexón.

Real Oviedo travel to Albacete this weekend in the latest matchday in the Liga 1|2|3. Asked about the clash at the Carlos Belmonte and what he hopes to see from his team, the coach stated that, “we are going with the
intention of continuing to pick up points and doing our things well. We know about the challenges that we will face. Albacete are in an unfair situation; they deserve to have more points. There’s no favourite in this
match, and we both have the same opportunity to win.”

Regarding whether he felt Real Oviedo had more chance of picking up three points against Albacete, the Head Coach declared that, “we haven’t beaten anybody so well as to be overconfident. It’s been a while since we won away, and every game is different. I’m not going to change my way of speaking; I know how I want us to play. Every opponent is difficult, every match is a different story, and in order to win a match in this league you
must do everything very well. We are going to try to do it. Hopefully things will go our way on the day and we can claim the victory.”

With respect to what Real Oviedo will have to do to take the three points home from Albacete, Juan Antonio Anquela highlighted that “the early minutes will define the match. That is when the coaches come into play
more, but it is a question of patience and trying to do things well. We must stay calm and believe in what we are doing, without making mistakes. The team must improve many things. Football is constantly changing. It is
crucial that we maintain our composure in every match. We must try to put the things we work on every week into practice, and, above all, always be a team.”

With five league matches played to date, Anquela has evaluated the positives and negatives he’s seen so far from his team. “I haven’t liked how several points have got away from us. I have liked the team’s
commitment and desire to do things well. That is a solid base to build the team upon. We have shown a very good level during the matches. In some periods we haven’t been great, but we’ve kept our shape and we have worked well.”

Finally, regarding Verdés and whether he will be available for the match at the Carlos Belmonte, Juan Antonio Anquela said that, “we have to know how to manage Verdés. He has enough experience to know what he has to do at all times. We can’t rush things, we must stay calm. We must not take too many risks with anybody, so that these problems don’t become more serious,” concluded the Real Oviedo Head Coach.
