Juan Antonio Anquela, New Head Coach of Real Oviedo

The coach from Jaén will head up the club’s project for the 2017-18 season, and will be presented on Monday at the Carlos Tartiere

Real Oviedo have reached agreement for Juan Antonio Anquela to be named the new Head Coach of the first team. The new manager has signed a one-year contract with the club.

Juan Antonio Anquela is 59 years old and was born on the 11th September 1957 in Linares, Jaén. The coach, who took SD Huesca to the Second Division playoffs last season, arrives with a great knowledge of Spanish
football, having accumulated a huge amount of managerial experience. He began his coaching career with Real Jaén, twice leading the club to promotion to the Second Division through the playoffs, which he took them to on six different occasions. After a spell at SD Huesca, where he managed to maintain the club’s Segunda División B status, he then took charge at UD Melilla and Águilas CF, before enjoying one of the most prosperous periods of his managerial career at AD Alcorcón. He took over at the club in February 2008 with the club going through a difficult time. He kept them in the division, and then masterminded a Copa del Rey giant killing the following season, beating Real Madrid 4-0 on route to the
quarter final. During the 2008-09 season, he also managed to take AD Alcorcón up to the Second Division for the first time in their history. He led them to comfortable survival the following season, before qualifying for the playoffs to the First Division in 2011-12. Anquela’s side was defeated in the playoff final by Real Valladolid.

The next step in his career was Granada in the First Division, before he moved on to CD Numancia in 2013 and kept them up twice, comfortably.

Juan Antonio Anquela arrives at Real Oviedo having taken SD Huesca to sixth place and the semi-finals of the playoffs last season. The remainder of his coaching team for next season at Real Oviedo will be announced in the coming days.
