Real Oviedo full back, Diegui Johannesson, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón following the first team’s return to training.

After his fine performance in the Córdoba match, which saw him grab a goal in the final minutes, Johannesson said that he was “very happy”, adding that, “it was a professional win. You can’t ask for more than a goal and a
win, and in front of an amazing atmosphere.” In addition, talking about his goal celebration, Diegui said that, “I celebrated by doing the ‘Iceland clap’. I had been saying that if I scored I would dedicate it to Iceland after their qualification for the World Cup. It worked out, and I did the celebration.”

With regard to what Juan Antonio Anquela demands from him on the pitch and how he feels on the wing, Johannesson stated that, “he asks me to stretch the play and help out in defence. I try to burst through gaps, and one of them worked out on Sunday. I arrived here as a full back, but I have no problem playing on the wing. I am happy and comfortable playing in either position.”

Talking about the importance of the victory, Johannesson declared that, “we had to win by any means, and we did it. We had some luck against a good Córdoba side, and picked up the three points.”

With these three points Real Oviedo have extended the gap between them and the bottom of the table, but Johannesson reiterated that, “it will be a long season and we have to take it one game at a time. Sometimes you feel like you are in Hell, and then you win and suddenly you’re fighting for promotion. It’s a long season and we must take it week by week. The results will come.”

Now, and with minds focused on Alcorcón, the Asturian defender admitted the importance of getting back to winning away from the Tartiere. “This week we are going to work hard in order to win away from home. We have to find a way. Away matches aren’t the same as home ones, but we will still go for the win.”

Asked about the bad memory of last season’s visit to Santo Domingo, Johannesson argued that, “it’s a different season. They’ve been doing well and will be in good spirits. We won at home, we feel confident, and will go for the win. We must build on a solid defence. Keeping clean sheets is important. We did it yesterday, and we managed to win,” he concluded.
