Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, this morning appeared in the Press Room following the final training session of the week, which was held behind closed doors at El Requexón.
The Real Oviedo Coach began his appearance by talking about Toché and his chances of forming part of the group which travels to Alcorcón tomorrow. “We are hoping that he’ll be ready for Sunday. We’ll have to see if we’re lucky and he recovers.” In addition, regarding the other striking options available, the Coach reassured that, “we have got Owusu and Linares. One gives us speed, and the other hard work. Right now, I’m only interested in that we keep working as we have been, and we’ll see what happens.”
Regarding the match against Alcorcón, Juan Antonio Anquela admitted that, “we want to get the win. We are going to the Santo Domingo, a great ground. This weekend’s opponent came out of the traps like a shot.
They’ve now hit a bump, but they are a team to be aware of. I am expecting an even match which my team competes in. Intensity, hard work, and that’s all. Alcorcón aren’t going to give us anything; they are a very good team.”
With respect to what the team has to do to get three points from the Santo Domingo, Anquela believes that, “it’s all about playing good football and not dropping our guard. We have to be a strong, consistent team that plays
good football. If we drop our guard in Alcorcón they will hammer us. We must be focused because one careless moment can mean a defeat. In order to win we have to do a lot of things, but in order to lose you don’t have to
do a lot at all. We are working week by week to build a Real Oviedo that is capable of competing and playing well.”
Talking about the kind remarks made by the club’s Technical Secretary, Ángel Martín González, in which he described the Coach as a fine person and a great professional, Juan Antonio Anquela said that, “it’s very difficult
to reply to praise. I’m a normal person who loves his job, and who right now would die for Real Oviedo. This job is a luxury. I am in the place I want to be; the place I have dreamed of being for a long time. We have to
work hard so that the people see what we are capable of achieving. We can compete against anybody, but we must be together and truly work.”
When asked about what a victory would mean in order to reinforce the work done by the group and the impact it would have on confidence going into the next few matches, the Real Oviedo Head Coach highlighted that, “this league has many twists and turns. The only thing I’m thinking is that we must follow the same guide as always, working hard and taking it one game at a time. Things change very quickly, and that kills the teams who don’t know how to handle it. Results are one thing, but you have to find a way to achieve things. I need a team which works hard and is intense in order to do that.”
Finally, regarding whether he would accept a draw at the Santo Domingo, Juan Antonio Anquela stated that, “I always think about winning, never drawing. Matches put us in our place, but I hope that the team doesn’t
accept drawing,” he concluded.
