The street named after the great Real Oviedo player Isidro Lángara Galarraga was inaugurated today near the Carlos Tartiere stadium. The president of Real Oviedo, Jorge Menéndez Vallina, the mayor of the city, Wenceslao López, other Town Hall representatives and numerous relatives of the player attended the event.

The plaque of Isidro Lángara Street was unveiled by the president of Real Oviedo, the mayor and Junkal Guerrero Lángara, the Basque striker’s great-niece.

During his speech, Menéndez Vallina regretted the fact of not being able to enjoy in videos the great plays by the Blues’ striker. “When we speak about football cracks, like Lángara, I would like to be older, in order to have enjoyed his football”, said the president in a touching speech which evoked the greatness of this top scorer.

Meanwhile, Junkal Guerrero, representing the family, of which twenty members were present today at the ceremony, emotionally pointed out, both the great kindness and great oviedismo of her great-uncle. "He always asked for Real Oviedo, wherever he was, in Spain or Mexico. Today he would be deeply moved, in his humility "she said.

Two representatives of the family, Asier Guerrero Lángara and his father, Jesus Guerrero, witnessed yesterday from the presidential box, invited by the Real Oviedo, the victory of the Blues against Mirandés.

Guerrero Lángara, a shareholder of the club since 2012, when he decided to buy shares to help Real Oviedo out of the difficult situation it was facing, received the certificate of co-ownership of the entity yesterday.

Lángara, one of the greatest players in football history, was a key element in the 1933 Real Oviedo team which became the first Asturian team to promote to First Division.

Top scorer in Second Division that season, he became top scorer of the First Division with Real Oviedo, and consecutively for the following three seasons.

Still today, he holds several records, like having the best goal average in the Spanish First Division, being the only player who has scored three hat-tricks in three consecutive matches in the top tier of Spanish football or having been the player who needed less matches to score 100 goals in that tier.
