New weekend of fixtures for Real Oviedo’s youth teams, with Juvenil A’s tense Copa del Rey match the main talking point.

Real Oviedo’s first choice youth team suffered a 4-3 reverse against Athletic Club. Alex Rodríguez’s side set out an intense game plan from the first minute. As a result, Oviedo took the lead through Prendes from a corner, during the first attack of the match. Following the goal, Bilbao would enjoy their best period of the match, which was enough to see them first equalise and then take a 3-1 lead. Steven pulled a goal back with a fantastic effort from outside the area. The Basque side however restored their two goal lead just before the halftime break. Juvenil A dominated the second half from start to finish, with barely any chances for the visitors. The ‘Carbayon’ laid siege upon opposition keeper Atangana’s goal. The pressure eventually told, with Steven finishing off some great work from Riki on the wing, who, after breaking into the area, played a lovely ball through for Los Azules’ attacker to once again cut Bilbao’s lead. Alex Rodríguez’s team kept trying until the final whistle, but without reward. With this defeat, Real Oviedo Juvenil A were eliminated from the youth version of the Copa del Rey, thirteen years after they last participated in the competition.
